Michael says: "I fell in love with architecture visiting National Trust properties with my parents. Once I started looking up at buildings, I couldn't stop.
My first two successful pitches, to QS News and Architect's Journal came from looking up - at the then new HQ of the Southbank Centre workforce on Hungerford Bridge, wondering about how they kept the noise down. And then at the wonderful, restored ceiling at Wren's St Mary Aldermary.
After I began covering the industry in 2004, I discovered how much of the interest lay in the way buildings were planned, designed and put up. I began to look at all the many different aspects of construction from that point, and I've never looked back.
